It should come as no surprise that problems of this ethical kind have recently come to the fore because of the proliferation of technologies that may gather data. There are several approaches to data collection, and each one has its own individual set of ethical considerations. Although certain approaches to data collecting could be more morally sound than others, there is always the possibility that the information will be misinterpreted or exploited in some way (Niel & Bastard, 2019 p. 803). These dangers might arise from activities such as searching the internet, using social media, or even having interactions with close friends and family. Any type of data collecting brings with it the possibility that the information it gathers might be accessed by a third party, whether that third party is a friend, a member of the family, or even a complete stranger. As a result, the purpose of this article is to investigate the moral concerns raised by Artificial Intelligence in respect to privacy and the protection of data.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a powerful instrument that has the capacity to gather massive quantities of data on people as well as the activities that they engage in. It is capable of performing a wide range of functions, including as assessing customer feedback, anticipating the behavior of customers, and identifying instances of fraud and abuse. Without the user’s knowledge or permission, Artificial Intelligence is able to gather personally identifiable information (PII), such as their name, address, and other sensitive details. This data that it gathers may be used to target advertisements and marketing messages in a manner that is likely to appeal to the user, which may not be in the user’s best interest. Alternatively stated: Additionally, the data that is acquired may be used to develop profiles of people, which can then be utilized for marketing or other reasons. These profiles can also be created using the data that is collected. All of this gives rise to worries over the users’ right to privacy and the safeguarding of their data. Although artificial intelligence has the potential to make our lives easier, it must be used in a responsible manner in order to prevent people’ data and privacy from being compromised. The implementation of appropriate data collection and storage methods, the use of opt-in consent for data collection, the building of trust through transparency and product education, and the creation of a feedback mechanism for users to provide feedback on their experience with artificial intelligence are some of the steps that can be taken to ensure the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

Companies may guarantee that the data they gather is utilized in a responsible and ethical manner, as well as that the privacy of persons is maintained, if they take the procedures outlined above.
